- Raise awareness about light pollution, its adverse effects, and its solutions
- Educate everyone, everywhere, about the values of quality outdoor lighting

The International Dark-Sky Association ( ) was incorporated in 1988 as a tax-exempt non-profit organization operating exclusively for educational and scientific purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code of 1987 (Federal Identification Number 74-2493011).
